Eventer Ruth Edge made a stunning start at grand prix level dressage coming 2nd and scoring 69.39% at Bury Farm High Profile show last weekend (30 November).
The score was even more impressive considering her ride, 11-year-old Shadowfax, was also making his grand prix debut.
“I was absolutely thrilled,” said Ruth, who trains with Judy Harvey.
“We’ve been practising all year and aiming at this for a long time. He lost a bit of balance coming out of one pirouette but I was pleased with his piaffe and passage.
“It’s such a different ball game to doing it at home. When you step up a level at eventing there’s always an ‘easier’ course you can do to start with, but it’s not the same with dressage.
“It’s tough from the start!”
Ruth is now part of a select group, including Susanna Bordone, Ingrid Klimke and Michael Jung, of riders who compete at the highest level in 2 disciplines.
