Endurance riders are expected to flock to this weekend’s NFU Mutual Summer Solstice ride
Three days of competition at Ludlow Racecourse has encouraged an entry of 425 horses across 12classes for the NFU Mutual Summer Solstice ride on 21-23 June.
Featuring the only 160km-in-a-day ER in the country, the FEI three-star class has attracted a strong field of 23. Entries include previous winners Melanie Fauske, this time riding Monnington Nirvana, and Jim Lane on Murtada. Both horses are attempting the distance for the first time.
Endurance GB chairman John Hudson will ride Tigre, who so nearly succeeded in the epic Hilton 100kmFEI ride on Exmoor, while junior international Anna Williams from Cornwall will be having her first try at the distance on her experienced mare Druimghigha Shiera.
An Arabian Saddle Company Solstice Saddle will be presented to the winner.
In the Endurance GB national championship 160km class, sponsored by Hilton Herbs, Vicky Brown and Simply Chloe will be hoping to add to the junior championships they won at the Dukeries 100km ride, and the gold award they claimedin the Exmoor novice 80km ride.
A total of 16 horses will contest this class and the winner will receive a Keith Bryan saddle commissioned by the Worshipful Company of Saddlers.
Thirty-eight horses will line up for the FEI two-star 100km class sponsored by Hilton Herbs, including many on the intermediate team list hoping to catch the eyes of the selectors for a trip to Belgium in July.
