Two donkeys that were rescued by The Donkey Sanctuary in 2011 have been rehomed in a young offenders institute.
Four-year-old Joey and Jasper came into the charity’s care after concerns were raised about their overgrown hooves and general body condition.
They will now be looked after by residents at Warrington Young Offenders Institute in Cheshire, where donkeys have been fostered through the charity for more than 18 years.
The Donkey Sanctuary carries out donkey care courses at the institute several times a year to help improve the young peoples knowledge and skills.
“It is really inspiring to see these donkeys, who themselves have been rehabilitated after their difficult start in life, having a positive impact on the rehabilitation of young people with troubled backgrounds,” said the charity’s Michael Crane.
“Having seen how well our donkeys have been cared for at the institute in the past, I have no doubt that Joey and Jasper will soon be thriving in their new environment.”
