Reining success for Britain

  • British rider in the placings at US reigning championships.

Britain’s Rosanne Sternberg achieved an outstanding placing in the new FEI discipline of reining, finishing fourth in a large field of international riders in the amateur final at the American Quarter Horse Association World Championships in Oklahoma.

Rosanne and her 12-year-old sorrel Quarter Horse stallion Nijomi Sonny Reb were within two marks ofsecond place in the final, won by Samantha Griffin and This Chex On Top.

Britain hopes to field a team at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez in 2002 for this fast-growing sport, which entails riding a pre-set pattern similar to a dressagetest.

Italy’s Andrea Fappani, 24, was the first non-US rider to win the National Reining Horse Association Futurity Open Championship on the three-year-old RR Star.

Andrea’s share of the show’s $1m prize fund was $150,000.
