Eighteen tonnes of horse feed will be delivered to Redwings Horse Sanctuary tomorrow (Wednesday 10 November).
The feed comes from a campaign run by feed manufacturers Spillers and will feed the 350 horses at the charity’s headquarters in Norfolk for two months.
“Spillers pledged 1kg of feed for every person who clicked ‘like’ on their Team Spillers facebook account,” said Redwings’ Nicola Markwell.
“The campaign gave horse lovers the chance to make a real difference to our horses and ponies at the click of a button. It was a great idea, and an incredible 15,500 people agreed. Spillers very kindly topped it up to a full lorry load so we now have a staggering 18 tonnes of feed to help us this winter.”
One kilo of feed is a meal for one of Redwings’s residents, or even a day’s feed for one of the smaller ponies.
“Each click has literally put food into the mouths of our horses. It’s a fantastic example of how many people doing one small thing each can make a massive difference to a charity,” added Nicola.
Sarah Kitson, marketing manager for Spillers said: “We very much admire Redwings’ expertise and dedication in providing neglected and unwanted horses and ponies with a new start in life. It is a privilege and a pleasure to be able to support them in this way and we wish the staff and the equine residents a very Merry Christmas.”
