Pony in US put down after vicious dog attack

  • A pony has been put down after a vicious attack by three dogs.

The 8-year-old pony, Onyx, was attacked last week on his owner’s property in South Georgia by three pitbulls. Onyx belonged to a 6-year-old girl.

The pony was so badly injured in the attack — which left him unable to see, walk, eat or drink — that he was put down on Sunday (25 October.

The equine’s owners and neighbours are now worried the dogs might attack again.

“Three pit bulls got in and tried to kill him,” Gary Stolze, the 6-year-old’s father, told WALB News. “What if it is your child next?”

One of the dogs was shot and killed by a neighbour, but the whereabouts of the other two dogs is unknown.

The horse community in the area have rallied to support the family, with offers of a replacement pony for Onyx’s young owner.
