Six pony club mounted games teams have qualified for the Prince Philip Cup finals at Wembley
The six pony club mounted games teams that will be competing at this year’s Horse of the Year Show (2-7 October) for the coveted Prince Philip Cup have been announced.
This year’s competition will include HOYS newcomers West Hants PC, who have qualified to take part for the finals for the first time. They will be competing against previous winners Oakley Hunt West from Bedfordshire, North Warwickshire and Wylye Valley from Somerset.
The remaining teams, Sir Watkin William Wynn’s Hunt from Shropshire and West Perthshire, have also competed at HOYS previously, but have never won the title.
“Taking part in this major team competition at the Horse of the Year Show will provide many fantastic memories which will last a lifetime,” said Duncan Robb, The Pony Club’s chief executive.
“Having worked together practicing for so many months real bonds will have been forged between the children, their ponies and each other, in the true spirit of the aims of The Pony Club. These talented young riders are a real inspiration to all those watching.”
Mounted games have been a part of HOYS for more than 40 years, since the Duke of Edinburgh first donated the prestigious Prince Philip Cup, to provide pony club members with “average” ponies with a team competition.
