Horsebox drivers can now download a pay-on-use horsebox breakdown app, in case of emergency.
The app has been created by horsebox breakdown and recovery service PRP Rescue Services.
Horsebox owners download the free PRP “Rescue App” on their iPhone, Android or Blackberry then fill in their registration details to use the service. If you do break down and do not have breakdown cover, the app will alert PRP who will come to the aid of you and your horses.
The service will cover roadside repair or full horsebox and passenger (horses and humans) recovery to any destination with separate, professional horse transport and is the first of its kind to utilise smart-phone global satellite positioning for horsebox breakdown.
Jon Phillips of PRP says the app was developed in response to public demand.
“Through our work with the police and the Highways Agency we have been made increasingly aware that people are travelling their horses with no breakdown cover,” he said.
“We realise that the economic climate is tough and some things just might slip but a breakdown can prove to be unbelievably expensive in the wrong hands. It is because of this that we have decided to make available our 24/7 service to everyone who register with us in advance.”
Services will be payable at the roadside and will reflect current major commercial vehicle rates.
“In the long run it is still cheaper to join a proper breakdown scheme but there is now a reliable, safe and professional alternative,” added Mr Phillips.
