Legendary “horse whisperer” Monty Roberts is going to become the patron of Bristol-based horse welfare charity HorseWorld.
Mr Roberts accepted the invitation to become the charity’s patron following a visit to the centre last November.
During his visit he found out more about the charity’s rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming work as well as meeting staff, volunteers and trustees.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the charity and HorseWorld chair of trustees John Newman said he was delighted to secure Mr Roberts.
He said: “Our special anniversary couldn’t have got off to a more positive start than this.
“To have Monty Roberts join the HorseWorld team as patron is a huge honour for our staff, volunteers and supporters.”
During his visit, Mr Roberts also learned about the Discovery project which uses horses to help young people with emotional, behavioural and learning issues.
This project was an area of particular interest to Mr Roberts. He said: “As I observed HorseWorld’s work it became clear that its main goal is to improve the lives of horses and children.
“By now a great proportion of the horse world knows that these two subjects are the prime motivations of my life”
Mr Robert’s UK prot ©g ©, Kelly Marks, will also become a patron of HorseWorld.
She is the founder of Intelligent Horsemanship which is a UK organisation aiming to bring the best horsemanship ideas together from around the world.
