The Society of Master Saddlers has awarded its Fellowship to a veteran horseman in recognition of his exceptional work within the equine industry.
Dennis Colton, 80, was awarded the fellowship earlier this month for his work as a training officer in formulating the syllabus for the society’s exams and for organising training days and seminars.
“I was extremely grateful for the award. I don’t think there’s been one given for at leastseven years and there are probably only about five or six holders,” said Dennis.
Dennis has a long history of working with horses. He was with the mounted police force for 25 years, spending some of that time training other officers. He has also been a national inspector for the BHS and a senior steward at many of the leading horse shows, including the Horse of the Year Show.
Mr Colton said he believes it was the expertise gained from those years, which helped him in his work with the society.
