Ireland’s 2012 Olympic plan

  • A four-year strategic plan has been drawn up to boost Ireland’s €400million horse industry in time for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) will target breeding and promotion of sport horses by affiliating with groups like the Association of Irish Riding Clubs, the Irish Pony Society and Riding for the Disabled Association Ireland.

HSI has also promised to crack down on doping and improve horse welfare by tightening the infrastructure and regulation of Irish horse sport.

The strategy was launched on 6 May.
