A horse was hit and died after it got out of its transportation vehicle while travelling north through Staffordshire on the M6 near junction 11 late on Monday evening.
The horse ran across the carriageway and was hit by a car.
The driver of this vehicle sustained chest injuries and was put in intensive care overnight, but reports are that he is now out of danger and will be moved to a general ward later today.
Inspector Frank Randall from the Central Motorway Police Group told Horse & Hound Online: “There is some confusion about how the horse got out of the box or whether the driver had stopped. We don’t have any information as to whether it was a trailer or lorry. “
