Horse injured by paraglider on Darwen Moor

  • A horse punctured a vein in his leg and lost a lot of blood when he was spooked by a paraglider on Sunday 21 August.

The incident happened when fifteen riders from the Darwen and North Bolton Bridleway Association were hacking on an official bridleway on Darwen Moor, near Bolton, when the paraglider took off.

Belgian warmblood “Stanley”, ridden by 15-year-old Yana Taylor, was spooked and in his panic caught his leg.

Yana was not injured and Stanley is now said to be doing well.

The land, which is managed by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, does not ban or restrict paragliding in any way.

Speaking to local papers Councillor Jean Rigby, of the West Pennine Moor management committee, said: “This paraglider is an idiot.

    “He could have killed someone.”
