Hickstead to hold 2003 European Championships

  • The FEI has announced that Hickstead will be the venue for the European dressage championships in 2003.

Dane Rawlings, who will be leading the fundraising effort to ensure that the 2003 championships go ahead at the venue said: “We are thrilled to have been awarded the championships.

“We have a mammoth amlunt of fund-raising to do, however. I estimate that it will cost £500,000 to hold the competition as it should be run.”

It is anticipated that the championships will be run in conjunction with the Royal International Horse Show.

Desi Dillingham, chairman of British Dressage, said: “We are thrilled that we have been successful in our bid [for the championships]. It will be good for the development and profile of the sport in Britain.”
