Great Leighs racecourse is sold and its future secured

  • The future of Great Leighs is secured, says its new owner MC Racecourses. The company, part of the Martin Collins Enterprises Ltd stable, took occupancy of the track on 25 November.

The all-weather track near Chelmsford, Essex, Britain’s first new course for 81 years, opened with great fanfare in April 2008. But within nine months it had closed, owing £24.7million.

Now the process to bring racing back to the track will start in January. H&H reported that the deal was on the table earlier this year.
