Funding crisis for WEG teams

  • Endurance riders are staring down the barrel of £3,000 each to compete, while driving chef d’equipe Bob Johnston has estimated he will need to raise £40,000 to send a team of four.

Kathryn Parkhouse, communications co-ordinator at the British Equestrian Federation, which has given the four disciplines £5,000 apiece, said: “The media interest in the non-Olympic sports has been growing. The reining, because it is making its debut at the Games, is capturing attention.

“All the sports would benefit from help of what ever kind. Every little counts.”
