Five horses killed in fire at stables in Reading

  • Five horses were killed in a fire in Reading at the weekend.

Three crews from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue attended the blaze at Little John’s Farm in Richfield avenue, Reading at 11pm on Sunday (22 March) night.

A fire service spokesman said: “The 80x30m stable block was well alight. The fire was dealt with with two jets, two hoses and a hydrant and was brought under control at 1.48am.”

Three horses were rescued from the fire — but five horses and other livestock were killed.

An ambulance was called to the scene — believed to be for someone in shock.

The cause of the fire is thought by the fire service to have been electrical.
