Firemen rescue trapped horse

  • Kent firefighters were recently called to the rescue of a horse after it became trapped in a ditch.

The mare, a 10-year-old Irish-bred cob called Shannon from the Hempstead Stud and Equestrian Centre in Benenden, Kent, tried to jump from one field to another, but fell into a ditch and became stuck.

A local vet sedated the horse and the firemen spent more than an hour freeing her.

They were able to cut part of the bank away and then dragged Shannon clear of ditch using their hose reels.

Alana Austin from Hempstead Stud said: “Shannon is fine. She was able to walk away after being rescued and has been unaffected by her ordeal.”
