A livery yard owner in Ayrshire told H&H of her “lucky escape” after a fire wiped out part of her stable yardlast night (Monday 6 February).
Laura McCabe from Muirmill Equestrian Centre in Symington said 21 horses had to be evacuated.
The fire started in the garage area last night before spreading to the stables.
“It was pretty bad,” Laura told H&H. “We managed to get all the horses out but we were very lucky – some of them had singed manes.
“The important thing is everyone is safe – but if we had wooden stables rather than stone then it would have been a different story. The only reason it didn’t spread was because of the brickwork.”
As well as the stables the livery storage area was “wiped out”.
“Rugs, boots, feeds, headcollars – they’re all gone,” added Laura. “But we’re overwhelmed by the support of local owners and tack shops, we’ve been having deliveries of supplies all day. Five horses have been temporarily relocated.”
She told H&H that the cause was accidental and there would not be an investigation.
Strathclyde and AyrshireFire and Rescue told H&H a team was called out at 6.23pm and the blaze brought under contol by 7.33pm. Around 15 firefighters attended.
