Farewell to Derby-winning trainer Arthur Budgett

  • A memorial service for the long and distinguished life of Arthur Budgett will be held at St Mary’s Church, Kirtlington in Oxfordshire on Tuesday, 6 September at 2.30pm.

A doyen of the Turf, he will forever be remembered as the breeder, owner and trainer of two Epsom Derby winners in Blakeney and Morston.

Mr Budgett sent out a steady stream of high-class winners from Whatcombe on the Dorset Downs, including Huntercombe, Derring-Do and Windmill Girl.

Many of them were bred at Kirtlington, at the stud now run by his son Christopher.

Mr Budgett died on 21 June aged 95.
