The Horserace Betting Levy Board and the Bookmakers’ Committee have failed to reach agreement on the terms of next year’s Levy Scheme.
The scheme, set to run from 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2012, will now be referred to the secretary of state for culture media and sport, Jeremy Hunt.
The British Horseracing Authority and other racing bodies claim the suggested £50m contribution from betting in 2011 is around half that of two years ago.
Levy Board chairman Paul Lee said: “It is very disappointing that it has not proved possible to reach agreement on the 50th Scheme. Despite protracted and in-depth discussion at Board meetings and elsewhere, ultimately the positions of Racing and the Bookmakers’ Committee remained significantly apart.”
