Equestrian photographer Iian Shaw dies aged 69

  • Equestrian photographer Iian Shaw died following a short illness on 13 January. He was 69.

Iian worked for H&H and its sister magazine, Eventing, for many years. With his wife Martha, he covered events from Pony Club to Badminton and Burghley.

Mrs Shaw told H&H: “Iian’s last job was Weston Park, which we had done for [organiser] Janet Plant for over 25 years.

“He became infamous for falling off his motorbike while ‘walking the course’ on it and was well known by many riders.”

Fellow photographer Kit Houghton told H&H Iian would be “sadly missed”.

“He was affectionately known as the ‘gnome’ and could be found sitting patiently at his chosen cross-country fence and always had a wry comment for passers-by,” he said.
