Donkey from Shrek is Britain’s most-loved movie animal.
Shrek’s loyal companion, voiced by Hollywood actor Eddie Murphy, topped a recent poll carried out by Lovefilm.
More than 2,000 Lovefilm members voted in the poll, the results of which were released to coincide with the release of Ice Age 3 last week (1 July).
Donkey fought off tough competition from Simba the cub from The Lion King, Baloo the bear from The Jungle Book and Dumbo the elephant.
“We challenge any film fan not to love the Donkey character from the Shrek movies – who wants cute and cuddly when you can have pant-wettingly funny instead?” said Fliss White from Lovefilm.
The character received more than a quarter of the votes, while Simba came in second with 15%.
Others who made the top ten were Dory the Fish from Finding Nemo, Sid from Ice Age and Sebastian the crab from The Little Mermaid.
Beethoven the dog, Garfield the cat and Aslan the Lion narrowly missed out.
The top ten animal film characters were:
1. Donkey, Shrek
2. Simba the Cub, The Lion King
3. Baloo the Bear, The Jungle Book (1967)
4. Dory the Fish, Finding Nemo (2003)
5. Sid the Sloth, Ice Age (2002)
6. Dumbo the Elephant, Dumbo (1941)
7. Babe the Pig, Babe (1995)
8. Sebastian the Crab, The Little Mermaid (1989)
9. Hammy the Squirrel, Over the Hedge (2006)
10. Lassie the Dog, Lassie Come Home (1943)
