Film and TV star, Ricky Tomlinson, picks eight-year-old Kati as the Scruffts Family Dog of the Year
A top canine award has been awarded to a dog who survived “horrendous” injuries after being thrown under a juggernaught.
Eight-year-old Kati won the final of the Pal Scruffts’ Family Dog of the Year for cross-breeds at Earls Court in London this month.
The event, run in association with the Kennel Club, holds heats around the country.
It raised more than £8,000 for the National Canine Defence League.
Movie star and co-judge, Ricky Tomlinson, said: “It is great to see so many family dogs recognised by this event and so much money raised for such a worthy cause.
“I fell in love with Kati as soon as she came into the ring – a real dog with a very heart-warming story.”
Kati, who won her heat as the “prettiest bitch”, was abandoned at a young age then lost a leg in an incident with the juggernaught.
Owner, Daphne Grenall, said: “Kati has been to hell and back, but can still smile with the best of them. She’s a very brave dog indeed.”
