British dressage team for WEG confirmed


  • Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro are to spearhead the British dressage squad aiming for gold at the FEI Alltech World Equestrian Games (WEG) next month.

    Charlotte will be joined by her Olympic teammate and trainer Carl Hester, who will be partnered by his ownand Jane de la Mare’s Nip Tuck. His reserve horse is Dances with Wolves.

    Michael Eilberg — who put in a strong performance last week at Aachen — has been selected with Half Moon Delphi. The mare is owned by Jon and Julie Deverill. His reserve horse is Marakov.

    Gareth Hughes and Jane Brewins’ DV Stenkjers Nadonna complete the line-up.

    Charlotte said she was “really excited” to be taking part in her first WEG.

    Representing my country is always a great honour and I hope we can give our fans and supporters the results to make them proud. I’m grateful to Carl and Roly [Luard] for their generosity in letting me ride such an amazing horse,” she added.

    Richard Waygood, chef d’equipe for the British team added he was “feeling positive”.

    “We set our goal after London to qualify at WEG for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. We need to be in the top three nations to do this,” he said.

    “Achieving qualification this summer will allow us to campaign next year with as much flexibility as possible, without having to worry about qualification. It’s going to be a very exciting championship”.

    • Lara Griffith with Dr Wilfried and Mrs Ursula Bechtolsheimer’s Andretti H
    • Daniel Watson with Susie Farnon’s Fideramber
