Albert Zoer may miss the Olympic Games through injury

  • Dutch show jumper Albert Zoer may be out of the Olympics due to a broken leg.

The world ranked number two rider broke his leg when he fell while training a young horse on Tuesday 8 July — only days after he won the individual grand prix at CHIO Aachen.

The news has come as a serious blow for the Netherlands, reigning European and World champions, as the 32-year-old rider was considered as one of the favourites for a gold medal at this summer’s Games.

It has not yet been confirmed whether he will recover in time to compete.

It is a second piece of bad luck for Albert in his run up to the Olympics. Last month his horse Okidoki ripped out four of his teeth when they became embedded in a stable door he bit into while being saddled. He since recovered to partner Albert at Aachen.

It is also bad news for a Dutch consortium who raised a large sum of money to buy Okidoki specifically for Albert to ride.
