If you’re on the lookout for a horse showing real promise for eventing, take a look at our selection of event prospects for sale on the Horse & Hound website this week.
1. ‘Has it all’
Height: 16.2hh
Age: rising six
Gender: mare
Selling points: “This horse has the looks, the talent and most importantly the most fantastic temperament you could wish for in a horse. ‘Commet’ is literally ‘Miss Chilled’ — absolutely nothing phases this super-laid back mare, she is five going on 15. She has the most willing and genuine attitude to everything asked of her and genuinely really enjoys her work. Superbly conformed with a leg in each corner and great feet, and she moves straight and correctly. She is a jumping machine and has massive potential to excel both eventing and showjumping. We have never met such a bold five-year-old across country — she has happily bounced into water, jumped the skinniest of barrels and the biggest and widest of tables, easily schooling over British Eventing (BE) novice/intermediate height. Her showjumping also doesn’t disappoint and she is happily jumping courses of 1.10m with scope to burn. This lovely mare is very straightforward and easy in all ways, will take any rider and doesn’t take any offence at rider errors. Not in the slightest bit ‘mareish’ and doesn’t need daily work to keep her sane. She hacks alone and in company anywhere with anyone. 100% to do. She has hunted with ourselves proving to be sane and sensible, jumping any country asked of her with a small lady rider. She is more than ready to go out eventing at BE90/BE100 level next season and would quickly step up to novice.“
2. ‘Superstar’
Height: 16.2hh
Age: five
Gender: mare
Selling points: “This fantastic mare has three smart paces and a neat, scopey jump. Originally purchased from Ireland as a three-year-old, she has been slowly and carefully produced by a small young rider; and is already showing huge potential for the future. Her breeding combines superb jumping lines on the Sire’s side including stallions including Great Pleasure, Grannus, and Indoctro, with the thoroughbred Zafonic on the dam’s side. She has really excelled throughout her first season eventing this year — this wonderful mare consistently scores in the 20s/low 30s in the dressage, and has jumped up to newcomers/1.10m British Showjumping (BS). She is outstanding across country, as demonstrated by her impeccable cross-country record. She is bold and confident but equally genuine and rideable at the same time. She has an absolutely outstanding temperament, is very easy to do and always wants to please. A really special horse who is sure to have a very bright future ahead of her.”
3. ‘Has a bright future’
Height: 16.2hh
Age: five
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “‘Jasper’ is working well in the arena with three established paces and shows a sensible, willing and positive attitude towards his work. He is also jumping coloured fences showing a bold yet tidy technique with impressive scope. His eye-catching appearance and good conformation together with his temperament and attitude towards his work would make him an ideal young event prospect to progress up the levels, or similarly a super smart hunt horse. Jasper has previously hunted with the Wexford in Ireland. As he is still young, he is an excellent young horse for someone to work with and progress further over the next few months ready for the coming season, and to have a great deal of fun and satisfaction with along the way! This is a brilliant opportunity for someone to truly make their own. He is good to box, shoe, clip, vet and is up to date with his vaccinations. No lumps, bumps or sarcoids.”
4. ‘Great promise’
Height: 16.2hh
Age: four
Gender: mare
Selling points: “Bought in Ireland from the breeder (Knockanroe Stud) last year, this mare has been slowly and carefully produced. She has been a winner throughout her life in the show ring as a foal, yearling, two-year-old and at three. Currently competing at 80cm with great promise and confidence. She is a proper event type with traditional bloodlines and appearance, is straight limbed and well put together. Her siblings are already eventing in England. She is sired by the American thoroughbred stallion Diamond Discovery who won the prestigious all Ireland stallion class the Croker Cup which catapulted the stallion into the international limelight. This filly was one of a select few by the stallion already on the ground including several already eventing at international two-/three-star level. Her dam was a registered premier Irish sport horse (ISH) broodmare. This filly has a great page that will only get better and will make a fantastic broodmare at the end of her competition career. As natural across the country as her pedigree suggests, good to hack and very bold cross-country schooling. She is good to handle, a nice ride, no stable vices, travels well and is immaculately behaved at shows. She has a good foundation in place and is now ready for more time to be spent on her. She would suit a competitive amateur or teenager looking to produce or alternatively a professional for Burghley young event horse classes.”
5. ‘Nice event stamp’
Height: 16hh
Age: six
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “This horse has a great future ahead of him. He has evented up to novice but has no points so is still eligible for grassroots. He has qualified for the Badminton grassroots championship (Mitsubishi Cup) 2017. He is well schooled on the flat and regularly posts sub-30 dressage test with his best score being a 16. He is honest and straight across country with plenty of gallop but not strong. Potential to go up the grades as he matures. Needs a confident quiet rider.”

6. ‘Top class horse’
Height: 16.3hh
Age: six
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “This gelding has it all to excel in every discipline. He has very good and correct paces and a super technique over jumps. This year he has done it all including unaffiliated dressage and has cross-country schooled where he jumped up to novice fences and combinations, not bothered by anything. He was also lightly hunted with hounds. He’s been registered BS this year and won on both of his outings. He proved to be brave and careful. He has an amazing attitude towards life and work. He loves to please and he is chilled and quiet wherever he goes. Even if not ridden for a week he is safe to get on. No vices or bad habits. Easy enough for an amateur or teenager. He is a real gentleman in every way and forgives all the mistakes.”
