If you are itching to get out and about with a horse, take a look at our selection of competition horses for sale on the Horse & Hound website this week.
1. ‘Always tries his best’
Height: 16.3hh
Age: nine
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “This is an eye-catching ID X Appaloosa who has been brought on slowly. He has a big bold jump and striking paces. He is now ready for the next stage in his career, whether that’s showjumping, eventing or dressage. This horse always wants to please; he puts his whole heart into everything with impeccable manners both in and out of stable. Fantastic in the heaviest of traffic, alone or in company, and is good to shoe, box and clip. He is totally safe in open fields and will go first or last. A real gentleman who looks after his rider but is not a novice ride. He has so much untapped potential and is ideal for a competitive rider to produce further.”
2. ‘Consistently placed’
Height: 16.2hh
Age: 10
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “‘Crackenthorpe Tradicion’ is a stunning Warmblood who regularly competed in dressage competitions up to novice level. He has the potential to go much further with the right rider. He hacks alone and in company and hunted with his previous owner. He is always snaffle mouthed and isn’t spooky. ‘Cracker’ is always impeccably behaved at shows — he will stand quietly for hours on the box and never misbehaves. He is a very safe and capable jumper but due to a previous showjumping home, is not keen on making it his main job. Good to do.”
3. ‘All-round superstar’
Height: 16.3hh
Age: nine
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “This Irish horse is an all-round superstar and experienced hunter and jumper with impressive scope. A genuine and talented horse, ‘Bailey’ and his current teenage owner/rider have completed their first season eventing. They have learnt and developed together in the run up to and throughout the last eventing season, completing a number of BE100 events and BE Novice JAS competitions. Very bold and scopey, he comfortably jumps 1.20m showjumping and has readily taken on some large cross-country courses. Bailey is good natured and forward-going with three good paces and the potential to do a good dressage test. Hunted during the 2015/16 season and has fantastic potential for the coming hunting season.”
4. ‘Stunning’
Height: 16.1hh
Age: six
Gender: mare
Selling points: “This German sport horse is very talented. She is careful and brave and is an easy ride with excellent conformation. She is great both indoors and outdoors and is registered with British Showjumping.”
5. ‘An absolute pleasure’
Height: 16.2hh
Age: nine
Gender: gelding
Selling points: “‘Ollie’ is an absolute pleasure to take out to competitions, clinics, hunting and farm rides. He is always snaffle mouthed and is happily jumping around BE80s, coming seventh recently. Ollie is schooling nicely over 90cm and 1m cross-country and showjumping in lessons, and he always gets lovely comments from the dressage judges. He recently scored 75.4% in a prelim. Excellent to do.”

6. ‘Ability to fly through the grades’
Height: 16hh
Age: six
Gender: mare
Selling points: “This horse has the talent and temperament to go to the top. She has superb conformation, flashy movement and a proven huge careful jump. She is bold, brave yet compact with so much presence and ‘look at me’ factor — this horse is a top event prospect in the making. ‘Frenchie’ is an ISH mare by French Buffet. She has three superb flashy uphill paces, an active hind leg and is responsive to the aids without being sharp. She has a lovely soft mouth, works in a correct consistent outline in all three gaits accompanied by the most fantastic uphill canter which is so easy to adjust and lengthen making her jumping work very easy. Her lateral work is progressing well, she has been allowed time to mature therefore she enjoys her work and is very willing. Would be easy enough for a small lady or an amateur who wants to win. Always snaffle mouthed, no vices, perfect to hack alone and in company, great in traffic, not nappy or spooky. This is the talented horse without the hang ups and quirks! She would suit a competition home where she will continue to be educated to progress. She is a fun, forward, sensitive ride who has never bucked, reared or bolted but because of her age and talent wouldn’t be suitable for a novice.”
