Olympian Mary King’s daughter Emily named for junior squad

  • Emily King, daughter of London Olympic team silver medallist Mary, will spearhead the six-strong Hows Racesafe British squad for next month’s junior European Championships, which will be held in Strzegom, Poland from 6-9 September.

Britain will be aiming to defend its team gold medal from last year’s championships in Vale Sabroso, Portugal.

Emily, who finished seventh at last year’s championships when riding as an individual on Mr Hiho, will be joined by five junior squad first-timers: the reigning national under-18 champion Isabella Innes-Ker (Carolyn), Alfie Bradstock, who also competes in top-level junior showjumping (Minimee), Jodie McGregor, whose 14.3hh Spot On XII was competed as a pony until he measured out two years ago, Sophie How (Pebbly Aga Khan) and Alex Liddle (Romeo Z).

The three reserves (in alphabetical order) are Alicia Hawker (Nankin Des Ruettes), Talia Laghzaoul (Monarchs Rebel Z) and Emily Ryder (Miss Repertoire).
