Mike Etherington-Smith is WEG course designer

  • Mike Etherington-Smith (pictured) will be the cross-country course designer for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games at Kentucky.

Mike designed the course for the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and is responsible for the track at next year’s Olympics in Hong Kong, but this will be his first time designing a world championship course.

“The Kentucky Horse Park is one of the best settings in the world for such a competition and to have the opportunity to design a world championship course is very exciting and a real privilege,” said Mike.

Mike, who holds the post of sport director at British Eventing, has been designer at Kentucky since 1992. The event has had four-star status since 1998 and normally runs the week before Badminton each year in May.
