History repeated itself on the eventing circuit last year with Andrew Hoy and William Fox-Pitt retaining first and second positions in the FEI Eventing Ranking.
Hoy’s Badminton victory at the start of the 2006 season stood him in good stead and a second place at Burghley in September left him more than 100 points ahead of Fox-Pitt in the rankings.
Fox-Pitt’s 2006 campaign was not quite as powerful, but wins at Burnham Market and Hartpury as well coming third at Blenheim and sixth at Bughley ensured his position behind Hoy with Clayton Fredericks (Australia) in third place and Bettina Hoy (Germany) in fourth.
Fox-Pitt was the only British rider to appear in the top 10. Jeanette Brakewell took 12th place with Daisy Dick in 13th and Zara Phillips further down the order in 47th.
Australia and Germany were the leading countries in 2006, both boasting two top 10 riders. France finished in second place, with Britain and the USA in third.
