Goodbye to advanced eventers

  • The world of eventing says goodbye to retired eventers King’s Jester and Bally Murphy V

King’s Jester (pictured top) has been put down at the age of 23. The gelding by Just aMonarch was successfully evented by Jane Thelwall (now Wallace) and the pair went on to win Bramham in 1987 and 1988 as well as Burghley in 1988 and a silver medal in the European Championships in 1990.

After Jane’s retirement the ride waspassed to Rachel Hunt and then Lorna Clarke, who was placed at Blenheim and Badminton. Kings’s Jester was then ridden by Mandy Stibbe who kept him through his retirement.

Robert Lemieux’s former ride Bally Murphy V (pictured right) has also been put down aged 23. A winner of the Luhmuhen CCI** in 1989 he was later competed by Rachel Hunt, who took him hunting during his retirement.
