Canada names its WEG eventing squad

  • Four riders have been named for the eventing squad that will represent Canada at the World Equestrian Games (WEG) this summer:

    • Hawley Bennett-Awad riding Gin & Juice (owned by the rider and Linda Paine)
    • Selena O’Hanlon riding Foxwood High (owned by John and Judy Rumble)
    • Jessica Phoenix riding A Little Romance (owned by Donald Leschied)
    • Kathryn Robinson riding her own Let it Bee 2

    The reserves are:

    • Peter Barry riding Kilrodan Abbott (owned by Susan and Dylan Barry)
    • Selena O’Hanlon riding Bellaney Rock (owned by the rider and Eventing Canada)
    • Jessica Phoenix riding Pavarotti (owned by Don J Good)

This will be a 1st team call-up for British-based Canadian Kathryn Robinson, who shares a yard in Thatcham, Berkshire, with her fiancé, Italian eventer Giovanni Ugulotti. She has produced Let It Bee from BE100 level and the pair finished 9th at Chatsworth CIC3* last time out.

Hawley Bennett-Awad and Gin & Juice are squad regulars. The pair were on the silver medal-winning team at the 2010 WEG in Kentucky and represented Canada at the London 2012 Olympics.

Both Selena O’Hanlon and Jessica Phoenix have a reserve horse named.

The squad is trained by Clayton Fredericks.
