The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials has been crowned the riders’ favourite international event for a sixth time.
The event has won international equestrian year book L’Ann ©e Hippique’s international best event of 2011 award, which is voted for by top eventers.
Burghley won the inaugural award in 1987 and again in 1992, 1998, 2002 and 2008.
“Winning this is the icing on the cake of our 50th anniversary year and recognises the attention to detail and hard work undertaken by my team and our many volunteers,” said event director Elizabeth Inman.
The riders rate Burghley so highly for its “can do”, helpful attitude and course preparation.
William Fox-Pitt, who recorded a sixth win at Burghley this year, said: “Burghley is one event that my team and I always look forward to.
“The course and going are always fantastic and the improvement in the facilities for riders, grooms and owners, over the years has been second to none.
“The atmosphere generated by the administration team and workforce is always friendly – everyone is made to feel welcome.”
