Burghley box office opens


  • This year’s Burghley Masterfoods Horse Trials (4-7 September) promises to be as exciting and competitive as ever with top riders from around the world expected to flock to the prestigious four-star event.

    The British contingent will be headed by Pippa Funnell, (pictured) who has already won Badminton and Kentucky titles this year and is in line to carry off the richest prize in the sport’s history, the $250,000 (£150,000) Rolex Grand Slam, if she can also triumph at Burghley.

    Sunday’s format has been changedso the show jumping, the final phase of the three-day event, will take place in the main arena during the morning, leaving the afternoon free for extra entertainment.

    A packed programme, suitable for the whole family, will include four-in-hand obstacle driving, power show jumping and celebrity gymkhana games as well as the band of the parachute regiment and the traditional parade of foxhounds.

    Burghley will also host the traditional Burghley Strongid-P Pony Club Team Jumping onThursday and the finals of the Burghley Winergy Young Event Horse Series on Friday.
