American event rider loses two horses in stable fire

  • American eventer Rebecca Greene has lost both her horses in a fire that ripped through stables, killing nine horses, on Sunday (15 January).

Becky lost her top horse Scooby Who, whom she hoped to move up to intermediate this year, and Cassidy Blue, who was due to debut at novice this season.

The blaze broke out at Pleasant Ridge Farm, in Monroe County, Pennsylvania at around 1am on Sunday.

Local news reports say the fire spread quickly through the wooden building, causing the upper floor, filled with hay and straw, to collapse.

Firefighters were unable to get the nine horses out of the stables – a pig also perished but one survived.

The farm owner lost her four horses. The other three were liveries.

Becky also lost all her tack and equipment in the fire and a fund has been set up in her name.
