Peter Storr enjoys a perfect final day at Hickstead’s Premier League show winning the grand prix freestyle and big tour Derby title
Peter Storr and Gambrinus completed a well earned hat-trick on the final day of Hickstead’s Premier League show by walking away the Derby champions after winning the Black Country Saddles FEI Grand Prix Freestyle with a huge score of 76.15%.
It was the end of a long scorching weekend at Hickstead which saw record entries in novice and advanced classes.
For Peter Storr, it was surely a show to remember as his three grand prix wins with Gambrinus were clocked up with unanimous high marks from the judges.
Last to go in the freestyle,the combination attracted a mesmerised crowd, who appreciated the artistic and technically challenging test which began in piaffe followed with one-time changes down the centre line.
“It has been a show to remember,” said Peter. “Gizmo will now have a well deserved week off and we will keep him ticking over until we hear if we’re required for another ‘show’!”
Jennie Loriston Clarke and Catherston Humbug finished in second place with 68.85%.”We only brought him with us for a bit of fun as we had room on the lorry and he gets bored at home,” said Jennie. “We’re expecting Lizzie to be back in the saddle next year.”
Small tour
Massive entries in the FEI intermediaire II, saw the class lasting from early morning to late afternoon.
First to go, Carl Hester and Escapado held on to their score of 70.83% throughout the day with only Becky Moody and Kwadraat coming close as runners-up with 68.92%.
Shearwater National British Championships for 6yo
Peter Storr and his own Wild Dancer were the clear winners in the six-year-old section with a score of 7.80 judged by Trond Asmyr and Michel Assouline.
Amanda Blundell’s Marike was runner up (7.75) with Spencer Wilton and Groove Jet third (7.60)
