Juniors prepare for JRN championships

  • Talented junior event riders from across the country are preparing for the British Junior Regional Novice Championship, held at Weston Park (5 – 8 October). A total of 70 young riders will be contesting the coveted JRN title, following in the footsteps of former JRN contenders Oliver Townend, Daisy Dick and Polly Stockton.

The competition takes place on both a regional and individual level, and requires riders to negotiate one-star level dressage, show jumping and cross-country. Eight regions across the country have nominated their best four riders to contest the team competition, while individual prizes will be awarded to the highest placed combinations.

This year the Championship has a new title sponsor: Rowen Barbary Feeds have stepped in to offer their support. Based in nearby Whitchurch, Rowen Barbary Feeds have supported at Weston Park for a number of years previously as a fence sponsor and have also supported the Wales and West JRN team at the Championship and JRN qualifying sections in the Midlands.

“We are delighted to extend our support to cover this prestigious Championship. The event is often the first competitive milestone in many young riders’ lives and gives them a taste of three day eventing,” said Ian Hollows of Rowen Barbary Feeds, “I look forward to meeting the competitors and wish them the best of luck.”

The Junior Regional Novice Programme started in 1988 and has been instrumental in starting some of Britain’s Eventing Squad members, namely World Championship Team Silver Medallist Daisy Dick, Polly Stockton (winner in 1989), Matthew Wright and Oliver Townend.
