There is no stopping Daisy Dick. A week after clinching a team silver medal at the World Equestrian Games, she has been crowned 2006 Blenheim Champion.
A quick and careful cross-country round yesterday on Springbok IV left her in second place just 3.2 penalties (less than a show jump) behind overnight leader Pippa Funnell. But when Funnell and Ensign knocked a pole in the main arena this afternoon, Dick was catapulted into first position.
It is a career peak my finest win, Dick told HHO afterwards, I had a little dream that I could win it after the cross-country but I didnt expect to. Todays win marks her third three-day victory she won a one-star in 1992 and Aldon two-star last year. I hoped he [Springbok IV] would show jump well but in my wildest dreams I didnt think hed jump that well. He was a little professional.
Blenheim 2006 was a good event for British riders. William Fox-Pitt and Parkmore Ed also jumped clear to take third place behind Funnell and Rodney Powell on Major Sweep finished fourth.
