This year’s Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials promises to be as exciting as ever as Andrew Hoy aims to win the $250,000 Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing. Andrew has already won the first two events in this unique four-star series — Kentucky and Badminton — and if he can triumph at Burghley he will be only the second Grand Slam winner ever alongside Pippa Funnell.

Changes to this year’s event include the loss of the road and tracks and steeplechase phases, which have allowed the cross-country start and finish to be moved into Ring 2 bringing spectators even closer to the excitement. This year’s cross-country course features a number of new challenges for horse and rider, courtesy of current course designer Mark Phillips.

If you can drag yourself away from the action, the shopping at Burghley promises to be better than even this year. Everything from real ale to rocking horses, horse equipment to fabulous gifts will be available from more than 600 outlets on site. As well as avenues of shops, the Burghley Lifestyle Pavilion, The Country Living Pavilion and the Rural Crafts Pavilion include some of the finest and more unusual suppliers, some of whom only exhibit at Burghley.

Horse enthusiasts should make a beeline for The Horse Village and World of the Horse, which offer everything equestrian under one roof, including many 
experts who will be giving displays and advice. And of course don’t forget to visit the Horse & Hound stand (B25), where you can save 30% on a subscription and get a free fleece rug, plus you have the chance to win a quad bike from KYMCO worth £2,499. Other prizes available on the stand include £1,000 of gear from Harry Hall and Masta, Mirotec rug and leg wraps, Kan Body Protector , Brady bag and much more.
Ticket prices
Car parking costs £10 per day. Accompanied children aged 12 and under get free admission. Admission for all other visitors costs £10 on Thursday, 7 September, Friday, 8 September and Sunday 10 September and £22 on Saturday, 9 September.
Coaches (16-seater plus): free parking and free admission for the driver. Passengers charged as above.
Grandstand: event admission covers the freestanding West stand on all days and the South stand on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Seats for other grandstands cost £6-£19 for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Seats for Sunday have sold out.
Membership: £120 for car parking, event admission and entrance to the members’ enclosure for two people for four days.
