Layout changes for Burghley

  • Burghley has seized upon the demise of the roads and tracks and steeplechase phases for four-star events to make some important changes to the layout. The start and finish area has been re-planned and will now move to Ring 2 from its existing site near the stables, director Elizabeth Inman has announced.

“We have wanted to bring the start and finish box into the heart of the event for some years,” she said. “But because of the sheer volume of people and horses it wasn’t logistically possible with the old layout. The new layout will give our visitors the opportunity to look into the start and finish box and be even closer to the drama.”

Ring 2 will continue to hold a full programme on Thursday, Friday and Sunday whilst being transformed on the Saturday. The cross-country warm up area will now move to the old start and finish box adjacent to the stables, and the roads and tracks will continue to provide exercise areas for competitors.

Saturday’s picnic parking, now such a popular ticket choice “will be as good as ever” confirmed Inman, adding: “The use of Ring 2 for the start and finish box has provided the opportunity to open up a whole new area of the HaHa in front of Burghley House, which will afford wonderful viewing on Saturday.”
