Britain’s top names were missing from the Horse of the Year Show due to a clash with the Las Vegas Invitational, but the jumping still provided top class entertainment. Philip Spivey fulfilled a lifetime ambition at his first attempt by winning the Horse & Hound Foxhunter final with Romanov II.

The racing in world was in mourning following the loss of Best Mate. The outstanding steeplechaser collapsed and died while taking part in the William Hill Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter. It was his first race after breaking blood vessels just prior to the Cheltenham Gold cup earlier in the year.

Anky van Grunsven wowed the Olympia crowds and judges alike with her Olympic partner Salinero, (picture courtesy of Olympia) winning both the grand prix and kur classes. She also entertained the crowds with Painted Black in a special display on Wednesday evening.
