Germany’s Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst finished first in the De Havillande Holdings Santa Stakes at Olympia. A breath-taking jump-off of just 30.86 sec earned Pollmann-Schweckhorst the £3,300 top prize. Another German, world number one, Markus Ehning finished second on Cindarella.
The 33-strong line up included all the top show jumping nations. But the 12 jump track caught out many of the top names including Michael, Ellen and Robert Whitaker.
Denmark’s Tony Andre Hansen was particularly unfortunate. The young talent, who also has a successful pop album to his name, jumped an impressive round, just tipping the penultimate fence.
John Whitaker and St Honore’s Liquido were first to go in the jump-off and finished clear in a respectable 34.32 sec. Switzerland’s Markus Fuchs and Royal Charmer, who were next in the ring, jumped almost three seconds faster, pushing Whitaker into second place. But there was no stopping Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst and Diamonds Daylight. The pair cut every corner to finish in an unbeatable 30.86 sec.
