Organisers are pressing ahead with plans for the 2020 evalutions in the hope that the coronavirus situation will have eased by August...
A new auction for British Breeding Futurity graduates is on the cards this autumn.
Selected three- to five-year-old eventers and showjumpers will be invited to the auction, held alongside the Arena UK major showjumping championships (21-27 September).
The selection will take place at evaluation days for this age group, which are 13 August at Catherston Stud, 27 August at Vale View and 30 August at Myerscough College. British Breeding is looking to extend the idea to other disciplines in due course.
The announcement comes with news of a new Festival of British Breeding in Scotland, at Muirmill Equestrian Centre in Kilmarnock on 3-4 October, and dates for the 2020 British British Breeding Futurity evaluations.
“We are mindful of the very serious situation around Covid-19 and will continue to monitor developments. But we hope the position will have eased by August and are pressing ahead with plans,” said British Breeding director Rachael Holdsworth.
British Breeding is working with UK studbooks on opportunities, including mare grading and registration services, at all Futurity venues this year.
Separate Futurity evaluation days will again be dedicated to three- to five-year-olds to give horses the chance to qualify for the Equine Bridge. This development programme, relaunched in 2019, is organised by British Breeding in co-operation with the governing bodies for the Olympic disciplines, with the aim of matching more British riders with British horses.
“The dedicated days provide the opportunity for older horses to qualify for the Equine Bridge. Having these [evaluations] on separate days will allow us to use a tailor-made and optimised assessment structure for that age group, designed to give the very best feedback and support at that crucial age,” said organiser and fellow British Breeding director Dr Eva-Maria Broomer.
