A former HOYS ridden show pony champion took the prestigious Cuddy Supreme In-Hand Championship at HOYS yesterday. Mrs P Sowerbys’ Rotherwood Take-A-Peep was champion riding pony at HOYS in 2003 and made a hugely successful return to Birmingham two years later to take the ultimate in-hand award.
Rotherwood Take-A-Peep piped the Cuddy horse champion, the lightweight hunter broodmare Euphoria II, to the much sought after title. Euphoria II arrived at HOYS after winning the supreme title at the National Hunter Show at Addington last month.
The Hack of the Year title went to the large class winner Daldorn State Melody, who demoted the Keen’s Marquis Of Queensbury into second place in their class in a mirror of the result at the BSHCRHA championships at Addington last month. The reserve was Molly Lewin’s small hack Secret Garden, ably piloted by Allister Hood. The Keen’s were second once again, this time with Absolutely.
The popular Balanced’ Horse Feeds Mountain & Moorland Working Hunter Pony of the Year Championship saw the exceeding 138cm class winner, Quarry House Jasper, take the supreme title ahead of the diminutive Milford Funtime.
Milford Funtime, who has been successful in cradle stakes classes as well as M&M working hunter pony classes this season, took the 122cm class ahead of the Harris’s Colby Starlight and the Beaty’s Cefn Charmer. The 138cm class went to Somerford Lady May, ridden by Katie Bacon, ahead of the Mackay family’s Grange Homeward Sparrow. Westacre Tom Thumb was second in the exc. 138cm class for the Thompsons.
