New Thoroughbred sire for Ireland
The Kennedy Equine Centre, one of Ireland’s largest sport horse studs, has acquired a classy German-bred Thoroughbred for the new covering season. Oke Boy, a 16.1hh son of Secret N Classy out of a Sumuru mare, had 12 wins and 28 placings from 96 starts on the track. He joins Glidawn Diamond and Aldatus Z at the stud.
“Oke Boy has proven consistency, soundness and temperament and also shows good jumping technique, so he should be an ideal cross for my Irish mares,” said William Kennedy, owner of the stud in Tralee.
New ride for Paul Hayler
International dressage rider and List Two judge Paul Hayler has been given the ride on a promising young stallion from the Brodhecker-Burghof Stud in Germany. Freudenstarn, a five-year-old licensed Westphalian sire by Florestan, will be campaigned in young horse classes.
He qualified for the Badminton Young Dressage Horse and novice regional finals at his first attempt. He has already sired a reserve champion filly foal in Germany and will stand to a limited number of British mares by AI.
Vechta stands in Co Monaghan
Vechta, the stallion owned by William Funnell and Donal Barnwell, is standing this season in Ireland at Eamonn McCardle’s Drumhowan Stud in Co Monaghan. The 14-year-old son of Voltaire out of a Joost mare carries three crosses of Thoroughbred blood. He was a Nations Cup performer with William and was close to a European Championship place before being retired due to injury.
The majority of Vechta’s foals to date have been out of Irish or part-Irish mares and one of his first crop, the four-year-old Billy Congo, was licensed at the Anglo European Studbook stallion grading.
New sires at Goshka
Two new stallions have joined Goshka Sport Horses in Shropshire. Festivo, a 16.3hh tobiano Westphalian stallion, is by Fiedermark out of a head studbook mare. He graded with the British Skewbald and Piebald Association in March, when he stood supreme champion.
The second stallion is the approved Danish Knabstrupper Faust Of Elmelygaard, who is a 100% producer of spotted coats. Faust previously stood in Sweden, where he sired the national foal champion on several occasions.
German success for British stallion
The British-owned coloured stallion Sambertino has enjoyed great success since travelling to Germany to compete with Eckhard Wahlers, with whom he has been in the top three in every dressage class. The 12-year-old Dutch-bred son of Samber out of a Wellington mare passed a 100-day performance test and sired more than 100 foals in Holland before moving to Flax Lion Stud in Hertfordshire in 1999.
His British progeny includes the three-year-old Sambizi, the highest placed two-year-old at last year’s British Warm Blood Society (BWBS) show. The dressage horse Whatly has qualified for the Horse & Hound Winter Championships and the foal Zamurai has been accepted into the Oldenburger studbook. Because Sambertino will compete in Germany this season, he is available by AI only in 2005.
New base for Lumes
The German-bred pony stallion Lumes will stand at Stallion AI Services in Whitchurch, Shropshire. Lumes, by Germany’s top pony show jumping sire, Losander, out of a mare by the British-bred Brilliant, is licensed with the Sports Pony Studbook Society, the National Pony Society and the Welsh Pony and Cob Society. He gained nine for jumping in his stallion performance test in Germany, where he was also considered a top dressage prospect.
Premium award for Orion
Heritage Coast Stud in Suffolk had something to celebrate after the home-bred Anglo Arab stallion Heritage Orion recently gained an AHS premium. The versatile seven-year-old, who is by the Anglo Arab sire Heritage Neptune out of a former racehorse, passed his stringent two-day stallion performance test with flying colours.
Placed at Newbury in an Anglo Arab race as a four-year-old, Orion also made the SEIB Young Horse Evaluation Championship at HOYS, where he finished fifth in the eventing section. He has since been eventing at intro and pre-novice level. He has also gained dressage and show ring placings.
Sweet music stands in Wales
The Thoroughbred stallion Street Music has sired his first foal. The bay filly is out of the Thoroughbred/Irish Draught former international show jumper Red Wharf Clover Girl, an 18-year-old by Clover Hill out of a mare by Derby winner Never Say Die.
The chestnut Street Music also has Classic-winning ancestry. He is by the Irish 2000 Guineas winner Barathea, a son of Sadlers Wells, out of a racemare who was sold to America and produced 12 foals. He stands at Welsh Sport Horses International on the Isle of Anglesey.
