Secundus, one of the most influential sport horse stallions to stand in Britain, has died at the age of 28 at Balcormo Stud, Fife.
Dugald Low-Mitchell bought the son of Rigoletto as a three-year-old from his Dutch breeder. Secundus became the first sire based outside the Netherlands to be awarded the top status of Keur Pref by the KWPN.
Sedundus competed in show jumping and hunted with the Fife before going on to sire countless winners in every discipline. Among the well-known show jumpers he produced were the Nations Cup horse Yorkshire Gent and Edenside Asher, a gold medallist at the pony European Championships.
“Secundus meant so much to us,” says Jacky Low-Mitchell. “He was King of Balcormo and he knew it. We shall miss him tremendously.”
