McPherson wins H&H Foxhunter final

  • David McPherson thrilled a packed house at the Birmingham NEC to win this year’s Horse & Hound Foxhunter title on Lowen Hertz. The pair produced a fantastic round to win by more than 2sec from 20-year-old Nicky Jennings, whose first-draw round on Sky Classic looked good enough to win.

Kent-based David, who was born in South Africa but took British nationality three years ago, was delighted by his win. He has qualified for the final many times before, but had sold his horses before HOYS every time.

“I’m so pleased to have kept one at last. No win has pleased me more,” he said.

The Dutch contigent scored its first win earlier in the evening when Leon Thijssen rode the eight-year-old Nairobi to victory in the Zinc Management Classic. John Whitaker had led almost all the way in this two-phase class, but Leon made the most of his late draw to win by 0.13sec.
