Steeped in history, Ascot racecourse was established in 1711 by Queen Anne. Now the Royal Meeting boasts five days of top-class racing, with equine superstars like Yeats, Black Caviar and Frankel being first past the post in previous years.
With 18 Group races and eight Group Ones, the racing is sure to be thrilling. And this year Royal Ascot is worth even more, with a total record prize pot of £6.6m; an increase of £1m from 2015.

Last year provided some exciting races and 2016 promises more of the same with more than 300,000 racing fans expected to attend the Royal Berkshire meeting over the five-days.

Wednesday 15 June – “The Prince Of Wales’s Stakes sees one of the most exciting foreign horses at Royal Ascot as race favourite A Shin Hikari, who was an impressive winner of the Group One Prix D’Ispahan, takes on the best of the British and Irish. Time Test and Found are likely to provide the biggest questions to the Japanese raider. A Shin Hikari could become the bookies favourite for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe if he wins.”
Thursday 16 June – “The Gold Cup is always one of the highlights of the racing calendar, but this year there is no reason to take on Order Of St George, despite his relatively short price (currently 7/4). He deserves his place at the top of the betting and he could be Yeats Mach II for Aidan O’Brien.”
Friday 17 June – “The second renewal of the Commonwealth Cup could be one of the most thrilling races of Royal Ascot, with the huge filly Acapulco back again after her Queen Mary win last year. Bookmakers will be keeping a close eye on her price.”
Saturday 18 June – “One of the most competitive races outside the handicaps the Diamond Jubilee Stakes will be a sprint to savour. Charlie Hill’s Magical Memory and James Fanshawe’s The Tin Man have yet to score in Group One company, but both look destined to record a top level success. Along with Twilight Son, Limato and Undrafted, it will be a hot betting race.”

Royal celebrations
Nowhere does pomp and circumstance quite like Royal Ascot and with The Queen’s 90th celebrations in full swing, this year is sure to be even more patriotic.
The Queen pays as much attention to fashion and outfits as everyone else at the Royal Meeting, and you can of course also bet on the colour of her hat. Top jockeys
Every jockey wants to win at Royal Ascot, but last year Ryan Moore was the leading man bagging nine winners in total, breaking the modern day record of eight set by Lester Piggott and Pat Eddery. The overall record remains for Fred Archer, who won a dozen races in 1878.
It was also good year for Frankie Dettori who chalked up his 50th Royal Ascot winner on Osaila. He later went on to take his 51st with Time Test.
