‘He owes us nothing’: leading eventing sire Mill Law retired from stud

  • Leading event sire Mill Law has retired from stud.

Owned by Nicola Baguely, he has sired numerous successful event horses at all levels.

Mill Law has been among the very top of British Eventing’s (BE) stallion rankings for several years.

In 2014 he topped BE’s stallion list for four- to eight-year-olds (BE and foundation points) and last year was fifth on the overall ranking for all ages.

The dark bay stallion was an 18th birthday present to Nicola from her mother, Sue Browne.

“He is 24 years old and you want them to stop while they are in their prime,” Sue told H&H.

“He is retired at home in luxury.”

Over his competitive career he accumulated 152 BE points and 145 British Dressage points. He was competing at advanced level eventing by the age of seven.

Partnered by Nicola, he had multiple wins at intermediate level as well as placings at advanced.

“He owes us nothing, he has been so fabulous and his temperament is unreal,” added Sue.

“His manners are absolutely 100% — he is just wonderful and we love him to bits.”

By Samiel and out of the Grade One mare Winsloscintillation (by Tamla), Mill Law is 7/8 thoroughbred and 1/8 Arab. He has never sired a chestnut foal.

His progeny include four-star eventers Coopers Law and Bradley Law and three-star eventer Jemilla.

He has also sired an overall event champion in every age group from foal to six-year-old in the British Equestrian Federation’s futurity scheme.

“He leaves a legacy of outstanding offspring and I would like to thank all those who have used him and hope you will all continue to keep in touch,” said a statement on his website.

The family has a Connemara pony stallion, Glencarrig Dolphin, to who they are planning on putting some Mill Law mares.

Their first foal by him, Dingle Dolphin, is out of a Mill Law mare and won every time out as a foal in 2015.
